Feedback/recommendations on using Active Campaign integration with Dynamics 365?

My initial impression was that Active Campaign was one of the leading marketing automation products. The automation capabilities seem robust, AC seems to offer integrations with many other products (including Dynamics 365), there's a good api, there's extensive onboarding support...

I have been trying over a couple of months to build a test application integrating D365 accounts and an AC automation that supports clients scheduling an annual review meeting with one of our advisors. I keep running into problems and wonder if anybody out there can offer some wisdom based on comparable experience. I'm starting to wonder if there aren't better alternatives?

  • Building AC automations to send a second email invite and respond to a created Calendly event was easy & powerful.
  • Using the api to add a tag to an AC contact from a D365 cloud flow was easy.
  • But AC is a contacts-centric design, so I had to give up on using their account records and instead overloaded contacts with some added custom fields carrying data from the related D365 account record.
  • Working around lack of AC support for D365 lookup fields caused extra work.
  • Syncing relatively static contact records down from D365 to AC seems to work reasonably well.
  • But relying on sync to move process status milestone values back up to D365 is not working. (Still waiting for Support to clarify whether the multiple, redundant value updates I'm seeing is a bug or a feature in their eyes.)

I'd appreciate any comments from anybody else who has tried to make Active Campaign work with D365.

Thanks!
